Toronto residents may want to keep winter gear close by Friday, as a burst of snow is expected to move through the city later this morning into the afternoon.

Snow is in store for Toronto on Friday and it could make roads slippery and travel hazardous, Environment Canada says.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement about the “potential for significant rainfall” in the city this week, which could lead to flash flooding.

Weather warnings and advisories stretch from Windsor through Hamilton, Barrie and as far east as Belleville. They include fog, freezing rain and snow.

Because of the warmer temperatures and rain over the past days, Toronto is under a water safety statement until Monday afternoon, according to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

While the start of spring is in eight days, it appears Old Man Winter is not yet done. Toronto and neighbouring areas are under a special weather statement, advising of possible snow on Friday.
